affirming the soul

It's been a grim week here in Lake Wobegon....a friend lost her sister suddenly on Tuesday night.  More budget cuts were announced at work on Wednesday and the world of dating remains fraught with ghosts past and regrets present.

Snowflake Lane--outside of Bellevue Square where my bells played last week.

All of this, is of course, exacerbated by the juxtaposition of the tinkety-tink of the 'you'll have a holly, jolly Christmas if we have to shove tinsel up your nose' noise and clamor in the commercial zone of the holiday.

It's a good moment to make some soup and curl up in a soft blanket, with or without a good book.  It's also a good weekend for holiday rehearsals (strings & pipe organ) or to hear some friends perform.

It's also an opportune time to sit still and notice what remains when the Props are gone.  Happy Poetry Friday:

The Props assist the House
Until the House is built
And then the Props withdraw
And adequate, erect,
The House support itself
And cease to recollect
The Augur and the Carpenter –
Just such a retrospect
Hath the perfected Life –
A Past of Plank and Nail
And slowness – then the scaffolds drop
Affirming it a Soul –

The Props assist the House by Emily Dickinson.

  1. I know that the top picture is of raindrops, but it looks horribly like some kind of silvery space ships -- very Night of the Triffids alien invasion.

    ::sigh::

We're a bit dragged down, too. Trying to remember all of the things we know to be true, that light exists outside of the tunnel, that things pass, etc., but ...'tis a little hard when one is both frantic and exhausted. I'm grateful that the concerts, at least, will be done soon. Not looking forward to back-to-back matinee/evening performances, but that's show biz.

  2. Yes, every once in awhile, I'll just stop/stare at the Space Needle--it really is such a bizarre bit of architecture.

This was posted by a friend early this morning: "When life seems chaotic, you don't need people giving you easy answers or cheap promises. There might not be any answers to your problems. What you need is a safe place where you can bounce with people who have taken some bad hops of their own." ~Gordon Atkinson

Choir/performers have always provided this safe place....break a leg this weekend!

  3. Thanks for the moment of sanity courtesy of Emily Dickinson---and for the Sacred Music Chorale plug. :)
I'm so glad St. M's has a support group for people who have suffered loss during the holidays--and so sorry that I know so many people this year for whom just such a group may be necessary.
