odd delight

Without being graphic, my delight in today is that I do not have kidney/bladder cancer as I feared; merely a surfeit of beets for lunch.

redemption

of my fully-stamped customer card at the fabulous Elliott Bay Books.  Since I walk around this place so much, figured it would be grand to actually know what the architecture is.

bookended day

To begin the day with chocolate...

& to end the day with chocolate, is the sign of a day well lived.

September poetry

exactly a year ago, I was on the road.  Driving a U-Haul's worth of my life from Princeton to Seattle, with no idea what was ahead.  An incredible year.  It's a bit enthralling and terrifying to realize that I have no idea what I'll be typing about a year from today.  Thought this poem came close to summarizing the year.

The Nose on Your Face

by Susan Browne

In all your life, you will never see your actual face.
If you close one eye, you can gaze
at the side of your nose, but that's it.
Is that why when looking at group photographs,
it's yourself you stare at the longest?
Sometimes you're mistaken for someone else,
And you want to meet her, see for yourself yourself,
but even if you met a gang of doppelgangers,
you will continue searching in hubcaps, sauce pans,
toasters, the backs of spoons, the bases of lamps,
in sunglasses, in another person's eyes,
and if that person is standing in just the right light,
there you are, trying to get closer.

whimsy

I didn't realize these were red peppers; glad that I waited to harvest it!  I think with the heat we're to have this weekend, all my peppers and some of the tomatoes may ripen.

This was the sight which greeted me as I pulled into my work parking lot.  Always nice to walk into work with laughter.
