distilled hope
Enjoying the sheer sloth of a Sunday morning with NO appointments or work. Lovely.
'There's nothing like a good recipe to make you believe things will work out fine in the end....
Even the phrase 'Serves four' is hope distilled.'
Anne Michaels
And look!!!! Look what I found while watering the garden this morn. Oh, happy day.

i HAVE heard the mermaids...
Another puny attempt to capture the majestic whoomph of the Blue Angels outside my window.
Piloting these planes has to be one of the most thrilling jobs in the world.
a long-overdue ferry ride
and then off to the beach!
happy, happy toes
miniature grapes for a miniature princess
a little bit of ham with our tea...
first cherries from the orchard
and a little T.S. to end the day:
| I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each. | |
| I do not think that they will sing to me. | 125 |
| I have seen them riding seaward on the waves | |
| Combing the white hair of the waves blown back | |
| When the wind blows the water white and black. | |
| We have lingered in the chambers of the sea | |
| By sea-girls wreathed with seaweed red and brown | 130 |
| Till human voices wake us, and we drown. |

tumbling mirth
As the Blue Angels are in town this week, thought it appropriate to have an avionic sort of poem. While I am enjoying watching the pilots zip and zoom past my windows, Bogart is less than plused.
High Flight
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

age-less joys
were you like me at the ending of childhood summers? do you remember the delight of school supplies? the woody scent of pencils, the organising possibilities with those crisp new folders, the heavy responsibility of choosing a binder when the old one fell to tatters...
Beautiful bouquet.
Grammar flashcard in the making. Phrasals! Modals! Infinitives--split and otherwise! Gerunds!

pickled peppers
a penny found (and not photographed) and the teeniest of peppers forming were a good kick-off for this month.
