felicitous feline

Happy the Man

by Horace

Happy the man, and happy he alone,
He who can call today his own:
He who, secure within, can say,
Tomorrow do thy worst, for I have lived today.
Be fair or foul or rain or shine
The joys I have possessed, in spite or fate, are mine.
Not Heaven itself upon the past has power,
But what has been, has been, and I have had my hour.

Headed to Portland after church for a brief visit and some dirt procurement.

marshmallows and the conservatory

Bogart, recuperating from breakfast.

Great email attachment of my little cousins.

looking for a four-leaf clover, no luck today!

random flora along the walk

Using my phone as camera; love the way this turned out wavery ala Monet.

A more focused shot of the outside of the Conservatory at Volunteer Park.

It's hard to see, but the base for this jumble is an iron sculpture.

Although no four-leaves were found, a penny was.

Tried my hand at making marshmallows this afternoon--yum!!

Finally getting the photos off my phone--this is from Christmas at the girls high school by my house.

shared poetry

(Yes, this does seem more autumnal, but someone posted this on my FB page this week and I wanted to pass it along.)

Wild Geese
Mary Oliver

Tell me about despair,
yours,
and I will tell you
mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear
pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies
and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild
geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.

First Thursdays=Free!

Free day at Seattle Art Museum, the featured special exhibit was Calder.  Lots of fun balancing mobiles.

And spent some pleasant sunny moments sipping coffee by the Sound and admiring this woven wire thing and ignoring the aggressive pan-handlers.

double delight

Trader's now has dark chocolate covered pomegranate seeds; between the amount of fat and the double dose of anti-oxidants, I figure my cheeks will be plump with youthful freshness by the bottom of that bowl.

Penny found on the daily trek to the library; found this annoying quote in one of the books I got (and if you think this was penned by the latest Beverly Hills or Berkeley health guru, you'd be wrong....):

"If you want to be happy, be."

Leo Tolstoy

Here's to sitting still and living the unexamined, chocolate-filled life.

money=happiness

Those who say money does not buy happiness, have not strolled through Pike's Market on a mild spring day.  The roof is bursting with daffodils and there is beautiful jeweled produce to buy:  vivid asparagus, button 'shrooms, teeny tomatoes.  Brought home to be roasted with olive oil, fresh pepper/salt and herbs grown on the balcony and curls of aged asiago.

Riches, indeed.

Pennies found and the balcony garden sketched out completed this first day of March.

in like a lamb

It was a warm and sunny day, right up until I took these shots.  Always nice to see the mountains appear.

Blurry shot of the Sound.

and very blurred shot of the moonrise; glad I caught it before it went behind clouds.

Happy March.  And the happiest of birthdays to my Scottish reader!!!!  It's not a pirate cake, but it's whimsical wish that your new year be a grand one.
