time & space

It's too hot for an entire poem, so here is a poetic snippet for Poetry Friday...

I seem to wish to have some importance in the play of time....what is deep, as love is deep, I'll have Deeply. What is good, as love is good, I'll have well.  Then if time and space have any purpose, I shall belong to it.

glories of the sun

While neither Bogart nor I appreciate this heat wave (yes, it's mild compared to the rest of the country, but really--we don't go about 60 before we whinge), my garden is rejoicing!  My first large ripe tomatoes.

In other news, I just landed a short-term teaching gig at a community college.  V. excited about this and hoping it will open more employment doors.

another day dawns

so much is swirling around in my life at the moment; it truly is a moment of 'when it rains, it pours'.  So many options, so many decisions to make and at times I feel frozen in trying to make the absolute best choice for my life.

At these moments, it is good to see the eternal stillness of my lake and Mt. Rainier and to realize that no matter my choosing, these things remain steady.

deep thoughts

'You can't learn from remembering.
You can't learn from guessing.
You can learn only from moving forward
at the rate you are moved,
as brightness,
into brightness.'

but desire is also the root cause of action.'

perfect poetry

Small change,
small wonders--
these are the currency of my endurance
and
ultimately of my life.
It's a workable economy.

mini-break

As I do not get a vacation this year, am trying to enjoy teeny amounts of time off when they occur.  And as three lessons cancelled yesterday, decided it was time to island hop.  Met up with one cousin and we zipped up to Pt. Townsend--home to the gorgeous flower basket above.

We wandered around the docks and piers and decided we needed to live on a sailboat and spend several months/years wandering around the seas of the world.

A different view of Mt. Rainier.

Cousin J and her new buddies.

After several minutes of cookie/pastry consultation and consideration of chocolate vs. sprinkles, Ms. S. choose the blue butterfly for the afternoon treat.

While baby bro was more interested in chomping on ice cubes and chasing the crow that was hopping about, hoping for some tasty crumbs.

Missed one ferry, but was lucky to be on the twilight ride homewards.

Came home with this fabulous portrait of what I have dubbed "The Avenging Fairy"!!

scattershot of joys

an entire dime for my thoughts

another stunning twilight

the beginnings of Mr. Soup (inner family joke)

"Magical places are always beautiful and deserve to be contemplated...
always stay on the bridge between the invisible and the visible"
~ Paulo Coehlo

Between the catnip in bloom, the nasturtiums, and the tomato blooms, my balcony is a veritable international  airway for hummingbirds and bumblebees and honey bees.  Have had no luck capturing a bird in flight with my phone's camera.

words, gratis

My branch of the library was giving away Sunday papers for free.  What a great way to celebrate what is my last free Sunday until January....unless a miracle occurs very soon and I get a job.  Finger's crossed.

Fresh corn, tomatoes, herbs from the garden, dancing with freshly cooked black beans made for a joyful little dinner.

Full moon rising.
